30k jobs available on May 1 'mega' fair

On Labor Day (Tuesday), the Labor Department will offer jobseekers some 30,000 local and overseas job opportunities in a “mega fair" in Manila. In a statement on its website (www.dole.gov.ph), the Labor Department said the “Mega Jobs, Livelihood, and Housing Fair" will be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rizal Park on Taft Avenue. Labor secretary Arturo Brion said the department invited 130 local employers and 20 overseas recruitment agencies to join the fair. Fellow organizers include the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) and the Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) in Metro Manila and Calabarzon. The fair will also serve as a one-stop shop where applicants can secure or renew pertinent pre-employment documents required in getting a job. Among the local job vacancies to be offered are accounting and administrative personnel, call center agents, IT and HR specialists, drivers and other transport workers, hotel and restaurant staff, engineers, instructors and trainers, marketing and promotion officers, sales staff, pharmacists, nurses, technical staff, electricians, and welders. Overseas vacancies include aircon technicians, welders, artists, electricians, construction workers, fast food personnel, engineers, safety officers, nurses, secretaries and other office staff, heavy equipment drivers, and store personnel. Brion advised jobseekers to be early at the venue and bring ID photos and copies of their resumes so they can submit several applications and maximize their chances of getting hired. He added the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), National Statistics Office (NSO), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Philhealth, Social Security System (SSS), and the Manila city government will set up booths to provide services to jobseekers. Other government agencies and private firms will provide opportunities for business counseling, mentoring, and training to workers who may opt to engage in business enterprises. Workers may also avail of free legal, medical and welfare assistance and other services from DOLE agencies. These agencies include the Employees Compensation Commission for medical consultations; National Labor Relations and National Conciliation and Mediation Board for legal and conciliation services; National Wages and Productivity Commission for productivity and wage advisories; and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, National Maritime Polytechnic, and the Maritime Training Council for legal and welfare assistance to OFWs and their families. Pag-IBIG Fund will also showcase affordable housing units for workers, he said. - GMANews.TV
